Dallas School Board unanimously appoints Matt Woolsey to vacant seat after interviews

The Dallas School District Board of Directors unanimously appointed Matt Woolsey to fill a two-year vacancy on the board following an open-session interview process on Oct. 13.
Board member Rob opened the meeting by explaining the selection process and asking the five applicants to take seats at the dais. Candidates who answered a set of four questions in rotation were Michelle Bleckweber, John Beck, Walt Marquis, Matt Woolsey and Jeffrey Hernandez. Each candidate had approximately two minutes per question under rules the board announced at the start of the session.
After the interviews and the board’s ranking procedure, Board member Tyler moved to nominate Matt Woolsey; the motion was seconded by Dina. The board then voted and the motion passed unanimously by the members present. The board administered the oath of office to Matt Woolsey in open session; Woolsey pledged to support the U.S. and Oregon constitutions and to uphold Dallas School District policies.
Woolsey described his background as a graduate of the district and noted his prior service on the district finance committee. During his interview he said his primary interest was fiscal stewardship and making decisions to "best serve all of our students". Other candidates emphasized community ties, classroom and extracurricular experience, and collaboration with staff and unions.
Board members praised the quality of all applicants and encouraged them to continue civic involvement whether or not they were appointed. The board chair said the district’s superintendent-level and board committees (finance, long-range planning and equity) provide additional ways for community members to participate.
The appointment was completed in open session, and the board stated it would communicate any further steps publicly if additional information or time were required.
