He emphasized the role of families, employers and communities in supporting service members and gold star families.
Senator Collins introduced guests and recognized the Boston Semper Fidelis Society. Tom Lyons accepted a citation on behalf of the society and noted the group's work creating the Vietnam War Memorial in South Boston, operating veterans' shelter programs, and supporting housing initiatives for veterans across the Commonwealth. Guests Joseph McCarthy and Michael Paris were recognized for attending the session and accepting the honor.
The remarks were entered into the Senate journal under Senate rule 68 and the body recessed briefly to acknowledge the guests before returning to business.
