The committee was presented with a Tennessee Comptroller budget certificate during Item 3, a recognition based on the city's budget submission meeting several criteria.
"Every year, Tennessee Comptroller's Office, based off your budget submission, out of roughly 340 plus municipalities, they'll issue what's called a budget award," said Chelsea Perryman. She outlined criteria including adoption on or before the fiscal-year end, filing within 15 days of board approval and no issues raised by the Comptroller's review. Perryman said the city was one of 86 municipalities to receive the certificate in the referenced cycle.
Committee members praised the work. "It's refreshing to have awards given to us," Alderman Fuqua said, and Alderman Jimenez thanked staff and asked whether the city could "rinse and repeat" the process in future years. Staff said they would review past submissions to confirm whether the city had won previously and aim to make such awards a recurring standard.
The certificate will be displayed in the finance office, and staff said the recognition reflected coordinated work by finance staff, department heads and administration. No formal board action was taken at the committee meeting concerning the certificate beyond the presentation.
