Staff briefed the board on the Heritage Festival scheduled for Saturday at the Stone House from 5 to 9 p.m., describing food vendors, live music, a scavenger hunt, face painting, family activities and a dog-diving exhibition. The Stone House will be open for tours during festival hours, and staff said local businesses (including Baker Dave’s and GM & Bean) and partners (Thornapple Brewing/Thoroughbred brewing) will participate.
Staff said volunteers are needed for staffing the event and asked board members to email volunteer availability; staff will prepare a shift schedule. A Halloween event is planned at the Stone House later this fall and a revised tree-lighting ceremony will take place Dec. 6, beginning in the park with remarks and a short parade to the Stone House for Santa visits. Staff said they are working to coordinate entertainment and lighting elements to encourage walking through the village on event nights.
Board members were encouraged to participate in outreach to local merchants; staff noted success engaging businesses that proactively contacted the township about participation. Staff also said they have contacted local art teachers about displaying student work at the Stone House during events.
