Homewood previews multiple traffic and public-works items for Nov. 24: 3-way stop, waterline and stop signs

City engineering and traffic staff presented several public-works and traffic-control items on Nov. 10 for the committee’s preview.

Traffic staff recommended a three-way stop at the Avalon approach to Waverly Drive after a sight-distance investigation indicated inadequate visibility; staff said this will be processed as an ordinance with a first reading on Nov. 24 and neighbors will be notified.

Separately, staff identified a proposed 12-inch waterline installation in the Brookwood Boulevard right-of-way as part of a larger extension; this identification item will return for formal action on Nov. 24.

Traffic staff also recommended adding a stop sign at the Westover Drive approach to the Shades Road intersection to clarify right-of-way and enhance pedestrian safety near Edgewood Elementary; staff plans to include the ordinance for the Nov. 24 agenda.

Councilors asked process questions about ordinance readings, public notification and the timeline for readings and final votes; staff said items will follow the standard two-reading ordinance schedule unless something requires expedited action.
