Robla board hears updates on Sacramento START and Freedom Schools after‑school programs

Representatives of Sacramento START and the Robles Family Development Center updated the Robla School District Board on after‑school and summer programs that district leaders said support academic growth and family engagement.
Joanne Morrison (speaker 7) presented Sacramento START’s 2024–25 overview, describing academic enrichment, food literacy, anti‑bullying and cultural programming. Morrison said the program’s slides reported participant counts for the year and that survey comments show families value the program’s safe learning environment and social‑emotional benefits. Morrison also noted summer programming at Glenwood and reported average daily attendance figures for sessions.
Blake Cutworth (speaker 2) presented Robles Family Development Center and Freedom Schools programming, highlighting literacy‑based curriculum, Harambee opening routines, field trip partnerships (including the Sacramento History Museum) and role modeling by staff and trustees at program events. Cutworth reported that the program enrolled scholars at multiple sites during summer and that parent feedback has been largely positive.
Board questions focused on attendance patterns (how many enrolled vs. average daily attendance during sessions), the distribution of students by grade level, and whether summer participants were double‑counted when they attended multiple sessions. Presenters said the district can provide more detailed breakdowns and attendance history in follow‑up materials.
The board thanked program staff and partners and did not take policy action; trustees asked staff to continue reporting enrollment and attendance trends and to supply comparative year‑to‑year data in future briefings.
