Council approves first reading of zone change to M-2 for Lot 1, Irma Addition

The City of Casper council opened a public hearing and approved on first reading an ordinance to change the zoning of Lot 1 of the Irma Addition Subdivision to M-2 (general industrial) to allow the applicant to construct an addition on the east side of an existing office/warehouse at 777 Antler.
City staff explained the applicant had previously applied for a conditional-use permit under the prior C-4 zoning and that Planning & Zoning denied the conditional use for the requested residential use; the applicant therefore requested rezoning to a general industrial designation that would permit the proposed residential addition. The applicant representative described plans for a roughly 2,500-square-foot east-side addition and said the site already holds a temporary certificate of occupancy for the existing 7,400-square-foot office/warehouse.
The council received no public opposition during the hearing. After the public hearing closed, the council moved to approve the ordinance on first reading; the motion passed with all councilors voting aye.
Next steps: The ordinance will return for second reading/continuation as required by municipal code; any additional public hearings or permit approvals will follow the normal review process.
