Pembroke officials outline plan, costs and votes needed to join South Shore Tech

A Pembroke schools official presented a proposal to join South Shore Technical High School and told residents the plan would require three votes for the town to become a member. The presentation, given at a public forum, described projected student seats, estimated taxpayer impacts and next steps, and answered detailed questions about local programs and bonding.

Why it matters: Pembroke does not currently operate a Chapter 74 vocational program; joining South Shore Tech would make vocational pathways (plumbing, veterinary technology and others planned at South Shore Tech's new building) available to Pembroke students who otherwise lack access. Officials said the change could shift roughly 84 students to South Shore Tech at full enrollment — about 20 students per grade — and would affect long-term budget planning for the town.

The school presenter said enrollment projections prepared with South Shore Tech estimate Pembroke would be allocated about 20–23 seats per year based on middle-school class size, resulting in roughly 84 students at full enrollment.
