Quincy School Board adopts updated policies including disciplinary provisions after administrators complete training

The Quincy School Board adopted several district policies at a regular meeting, including updated discipline-related provisions, after a second-reading motion passed by voice vote.

Board member (Speaker 5) moved to adopt the policies and the motion was seconded; the board approved the measure by multiple 'ayes'. Board leadership and district administrators said the policies reflect recent guidance and that additional revisions could be needed once state agencies finalize details.

Superintendent-level staff told the board that administrators completed a three-hour training on discipline procedures and were provided a 60-page administrative handbook to guide implementation. One board member noted that other local bodies provide a formal public-comment window tied to agenda items; district staff replied that the board posts policies on the district website for public review and that policies proceed through a first and second reading so the public can comment between readings.

The board discussed how state rules narrow the distinction between long-term suspension and expulsion, noting that long-term suspension is any suspension over 10 days. District staff said some discretion formerly available under local practice has been limited by recent state guidance and that the district anticipates further clarifications.
