Committee weighs emergency access, paving and neighborhood impacts for Middle School East

"The next step would be the conversation with the township and then with an engineering firm to try and get some idea of a ballpark on numbers," he said.
Committee members and a resident questioned whether the access would be used daily by buses or restricted to emergency access. One member urged limiting the route to emergency‑only use and suggested gravel or permeable grid products to avoid increasing the district—s impervious surface. Members also raised sight‑line issues where the access would meet Wortman Road and noted prior township pushback over a 75‑foot setback and property encroachments.
Staff said they will take the feedback to engineering and township discussions, evaluate options such as permeable HDPE grid systems for fire lanes, and return with maps, cost estimates and traffic‑study results. No decision was made at the meeting; the committee directed staff to pursue the township conversation and the traffic study as the next steps.
