District recommends replacing 14 cameras, reports $30,900 in bus‑patrol collections

Chief Miller briefed the Safety & Operations Committee on Oct. 9 on two related security items: a camera system migration and the district—s bus‑patrol citation program.

On camera systems, Miller said the district completed a transition to the Genetech platform over the summer and added 29 new cameras. During compatibility testing, staff found 14 older cameras could not be integrated and recommended replacing them. "The estimate to bring those over, which was CoStar's approved estimate, was $36,900," Miller said, describing four cameras at the high school, six at Middle School East and two apiece at three elementary schools as the replacements recommended to close gaps in coverage.

Committee members agreed to move forward with replacements through a Costars procurement if the committee had no objection, noting the risk of leaving gaps in the district—s video coverage.

Miller also presented bus‑patrol data: "The system generated 400 incidents. Out of those incidents, 216 citations were issued and 113 have so far been paid, bringing the collection to $30,900," he said. He clarified that the 400 figure includes testing data from early runs that inflated incident counts and that bus patrol and the finance department handle collections and the vendor takes its contractual split before funds flow to the district.

Board members asked for a breakdown of the vendor/district split and seasonal trends in citation issuance. Miller said he will forward the detailed split and updated monthly statistics to the committee. No vote was held; staff said they would procure replacement cameras and include collection‑split documentation in follow‑up materials.
