Airport completes taxiway Alpha work, reports successful fly‑in and fiber upgrades

Marty, the Arlington Airport manager, told the council the taxiway Alpha reconstruction — including mill and overlay and reconstruction of connector taxiways — 'began in late April and was finished ahead 19 days, and reopening, on August 21.' He said only a second coat of striping remained to be applied.
Marty reported success with the first Hometown Fly‑In: he said there were about 55 camping aircraft attendees, 145 aviators and an estimated 500 public visitors to the event and suggested splitting future events over multiple days to reduce volunteer fatigue. He also described an ongoing effort to remove derelict aircraft on airport property and said the airport was down to one derelict aircraft.
On infrastructure, Marty said Phase 3 of the airport fiber project began May 27 and will extend fiber along the east side of the airport and Airport Boulevard to improve tenant internet and security; completion slipped a week or two into September. He said the master plan is about 75% complete, a public advisory committee meeting is set for October and a public meeting is scheduled for Oct. 8. An EV charging station is currently in permit review.
