The Stow City Urban Forestry Commission approved its Oct. 13 minutes and confirmed it will set up a holiday tree at Akron Children’s Hospital on the following day, the commission said at its Nov. 10 meeting.
Commission member (presiding) Speaker 2 announced the tree setup and told commissioners the group had received new donations to support the effort. “Just so you know, we got $250 from Barberton,” Speaker 2 said. Speaker 2 also reported a $25 donation from Suncrest and said the commission will provide a full breakdown of expenses and donations at the next meeting or in January.
Speaker 3 described how Woodland School children will decorate ornaments for the tree and said the PTA will help coordinate pickup; the decorations are scheduled to be ready Dec. 17 so the commission can display and later return items to the school. Speaker 5 presented a handmade ornament project from 1992 that the commission discussed using as part of the display.
Members debated whether to man a display table at the hospital or leave promotional materials and ornaments for visitors to take. Commissioners agreed to include tri-fold brochures and a QR code promoting the commission’s tree-planting program even if the table cannot be staffed.
On procedural business, Speaker 6 moved to approve the Oct. 13 minutes and Speaker 5 voiced the motion; the chair called for and received an aye vote to adopt the minutes. No further formal votes were recorded.
The commission adjourned its meeting at 4:12 p.m.; members said they will report receipts and expenses for the holiday tree at the next meeting or in January, when they expect to present a fuller accounting.
