Lavaca County renews shared EMS director agreement with Colorado County

The Lavaca County Commissioners Court on Nov. 10 approved an extension of a memorandum of understanding with Colorado County to continue a shared emergency medical services director.
County officials said the arrangement — first established in March 2022 and made effective March 1, 2023 under the extension discussed — allows the counties to share leadership and personnel resources for EMS. "I'm comfortable with it," Michael Furr said after reviewing the agreement. The judge moved the EMS item up on the agenda so county business could accommodate Mr. Furr's schedule.
Supporters told the court the shared arrangement helps both counties exchange personnel during deployments and provides management continuity. "To make TDM successful, we have to share our resources," the judge said, thanking staff for leadership in sharing employees during deployments.
The court approved the motion (moved by Precinct 4, seconded by Precinct 3) and recorded the motion as passed with voice vote. The extension is written so that either party may terminate the agreement with no less than 30 days' notice.
Next steps: the extension will remain on file with county records and the county will continue coordination with Colorado County on aligning contract dates and operational details.
