Council roundup: Toys-for-Tickets amnesty approved, third-reading on political-signs tabled, body-camera update requested

At its Nov. 10 meeting the Revere City Council approved several routine and late motions, placed an ordinance on file after an objection during third reading, and referred other matters for administrative follow-up.

Parking and holiday shopping: The council approved a late communication from the parking director to renew the sixth annual "Toys for Tickets" amnesty. The program allows the parking department to remove up to $30 per violation when a donated toy of equal value is presented, limited to a maximum of five tickets per person; the proposal also included free metered parking on Saturdays leading up to Christmas (including the Saturday after Black Friday) for a "Stay and Shop" promotion. The director asked for the council's blessing and the council approved the program.

Ordinance on political signs: The council took up the third reading of an ordinance repealing section 9.1203(o) of the Revere Revised Ordinances (posting political signs). A roll-call vote was recorded; most councilors voted yes and Councilor Novosalski cast the lone recorded no. Because an objection was entered on third reading, the item was tabled to the next meeting.

Health services and recognition: Councilor McKenna’s motion asking AFC Urgent Care (339 Squire Road) to appear before the council to present on its services was approved. The council also approved a motion honoring the Revere Junior Patriots flag football team for an undefeated season and the NCYFC 2025 championship.

School property jurisdiction: Councilor Calleandro presented a motion asking the city and school administrations to provide a written report detailing jurisdictional responsibilities over school property after a dispute in which a memorial plaque was reportedly turned down by the superintendent; the council supported the request and the matter will be handled administratively.

Police body cameras: In a late motion Council President Silvestri asked the mayor to request the police chief provide the council with an update on use of body-worn cameras, including expected costs and start time. The motion passed on a voice vote; no procurement decision was made at the meeting.

Procedural notes: Several economic development subcommittee items were reported out favorably (including a 15-minute parking grace period) and a number of items were placed on file for the next council term. The council opened public comment but no residents spoke on the agenda items during the allotted two-minute slots.

Next steps: For items requiring follow-up, the council directed administrative review or invited outside presenters; no final budgetary commitments or procurements were approved at the meeting.
