Public Works (speaker 8) reported that crews have focused this fall on blading and hauling rock in preparation for winter, completed painting projects on paved roads, cleared storm damage after a wind event and prepared equipment and shops for snow season.
At the county transfer stations and solid waste program, staff said the board adopted a new solid waste fee schedule and attendants have been trained to use scales. The department began scale-based operations on November 1 and sent extra staff over the weekend to handle routing and customer questions; staff said the transition is going well but that additional signage is needed at some sites. The department also reported a recent tour of four transfer stations in other parts of the state to learn operational practices for scaling and measuring loads.
Public Works also gave a brief update on airport work, saying the PAPI reconstruction project is progressing with engineering firm Century West and moving through planned phases.
The report was delivered as part of department reports (transcript SEG 239–SEG 339). Commissioners asked follow-up questions about road complaints and transfer-station operations; staff said they will continue to adapt signage and training.
