Burlington board awards bus bid, secures one bus immediately and orders another

The Burlington Community School District board approved awarding bus bids Monday, accepting a recommendation to purchase from Hoagland. District staff said one bus became available because another district declined its order, allowing Burlington to save about $15,000 and take immediate delivery of that vehicle. The board also approved ordering a second bus tailored for special‑needs seating with an estimated 18‑month delivery timeline.

Vice President Kendall (S6) presented the recommendation and district operations staff (S4) explained the timing and fleet benefits, including increasing the district’s number of air‑conditioned buses to four for summer travel. The motion to approve the award carried by board voice vote.

District staff said old buses are sold for minimal amounts and proceeds are returned to the transportation/fleet fund. The contract is cash on delivery; the district does not pay up front for the available unit.
