Council authorized an audio upgrade for the council chamber after hearing a vendor quote (~$9,800) and learning Google has agreed to consider sponsoring the cost and reimburse the city after ethics sign-off.
The Pryor Creek City Council on Oct. 14 approved authorization to proceed with an audio upgrade of the council chamber contingent on a sponsorship from Google that would reimburse the approximately $9,800 cost.
Mayor (S3) presented a quote from Backward Audio for new gooseneck microphones and a modern mixer capable of automatically mixing multiple channels; he said the core issue is an antiquated mixer that cannot reliably detect and mix who is speaking. “It’s not a failure to the mics… the antiquated mixer we have can’t decipher at the right rate who’s speaking, and so it defaults to off,” he said.
Mayor S3 said Google has agreed to entertain a sponsorship and that the company requested an ethics form and attorney sign-off before reimbursement. The mayor advised the council not to expend funds until the sponsorship and formal approval are complete.
The council voted to approve the upgrade authorization with the caveat that the vendor work and city spending will wait until the sponsorship paperwork and approvals are final.
