Norfolk Public Schools accepts 2025 audit; auditors flag I‑9 paperwork and foundation controls

The Norfolk Public Schools Board accepted the district’s 2025 annual financial audit at its Nov. 11 meeting after a finance committee presentation and auditor review.
Eric Wilson, director of business services, said the audit by Ford CPA was “very positive” overall but identified two findings. The first was a missing I‑9 documentation issue for certain employees; Wilson said the district has corrected records and is updating any missing forms. The second finding involved the Norfolk Public Schools Foundation: because the foundation currently has a single employee responsible for both invoicing and check writing, the auditor noted inadequate segregation of duties.
Wilson described procedural fixes already discussed with the foundation and auditor, including an agreement that the foundation board president will double‑check invoices before submission and continued use of an outside accounting firm that assists with invoicing and check writing. “She feels very confident that this is a practical solution,” Wilson said of the auditor’s view.
Board members thanked Business Services and the foundation for working to address the findings. A motion to accept the audit into the record carried unanimously.
