Mayor proclaims Small Business Season; Charter Review Commission recommends five-year review cycle

Mayor Eugene Bustamante opened the meeting with a proclamation recognizing small businesses and declaring November and December 2025 as 'Small Business Season' in the city of El Campo, encouraging residents to shop and dine locally. The mayor and council received a certificate of appreciation from the Chamber and posed for a photograph following the proclamation.
In other business the Charter Review Commission presented its 2025 report to the council. Staff explained the commission is recommending the city place one proposal before voters to change the regular charter review schedule from every other year (odd-year reviews) to a five-year review cycle; staff said that most peer cities perform charter reviews every five years or longer and that council retains the authority to bring amendments between scheduled reviews or by referendum. No council action was required at this meeting; the report and a signed letter from the commission chair (Amy Rod) were provided in the council packet.
The mayor adjourned the meeting and wished the council and public a happy Thanksgiving.
