Tuttle council adopts amended cemetery fees, staff to examine older unused plots

The Tuttle City Council approved Resolution 2025-13 amending cemetery fees after a staff presentation explaining differences among plot types and sections.

Staff explained the fee structure reflects different plot sizes, including a smaller cremation or infant area (described as a baby area) and a section not currently in use (Section K). Council members asked clarifying questions about why several fees are grouped in particular sections and whether there may be unmarked older burials in the west side near the chapel; staff acknowledged some historic areas have been taken out of active use because of suspected unmarked graves.

City staff also told the council that a change in state law allows the city to reclaim ownership of unused plots after a period (staff cited about 75 years) and said the city will review older sections to determine available space.

After discussion, a council member moved to approve Resolution 2025-13 amending cemetery fees; the motion was seconded and passed by roll-call vote.

Council requested staff evaluate Section K and other older areas for potential reuse, and to confirm any state statutory steps required before making reclaimed lots available.

The resolution passed on the night's vote; staff will follow up with the cemetery board and return implementation details as needed.
