Senate confirms Kurt Morgan as First District juvenile-court judge

The Utah Senate on Feb. 27 received Governor Gary R. Herbert’s appointment of Kurt Morgan to the First District Juvenile Court and confirmed the nominee following a unanimous committee recommendation and a floor vote. Todd Wyler, chair of the Senate Judicial Confirmation Committee, told the Senate the panel found Morgan “very experienced” and moved that the full body approve the nomination.
Wyler said the committee “voted unanimously to recommend his confirmation to the full Senate” after a respectful confirmation hearing. Several senators offered brief supportive remarks about Morgan’s qualifications and local ties. The clerk recorded the roll call and announced the result as “25 yays, 0 nays” on that vote.
Kurt Morgan addressed the Senate after the vote, thanked members for the confirmation and acknowledged the responsibilities of juvenile-court service: “I want you to know that I understand the responsibilities that come and exist from being a judge in the juvenile court system”.
The confirmation followed standard procedure under Article VIII of the Utah Constitution; the committee’s favorable report was transmitted to the floor and the Senate completed its vote shortly afterward.
