Galena Park Independent School District officials said the district earned 98 out of 100 points — an A — on the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (Schools FIRST) during a public hearing on Nov. 10.
"I'm happy to report that we received 98 — 98 out of a 100 points," said Ida Schultz, the district’s executive director for financial and treasury, calling the result "a superior achievement." Schultz explained Schools FIRST is a 20‑indicator system developed by the Texas Education Agency to assess school‑district financial health; four of those indicators are critical 'yes/no' items tied to audits and required payments that can cause an automatic failure if not met.
Schultz said the report is based on 2024 financial data and that the district has 60 days from TEA notification to hold a public hearing and prepare the annual financial management report, which must include disclosures such as gifts to trustees and the superintendent, the superintendent's employment contract, outside compensation for district leaders, and reimbursements paid to trustees or the superintendent. Trustees offered praise for the business office and staff for sustaining strong financial performance.
The public hearing was adjourned with no substantive public questions recorded; the board proceeded to its regular meeting to consider other agenda items.
