Library, police and fire reports highlight local services; mayor honors volunteers

Police Chief Arnold offered seasonal safety reminders for the holiday shopping season—parking in well-lit areas, hiding packages, and supervising children—and described three toy drives the department will participate in this year (Presents from Police; Stuff a Store; Life Builders), noting drop-off locations and restrictions on certain donated items.
Assistant Fire Chief Rob Usman reported October call activity (48 incidents; year-to-date 530) and reiterated home- and heating-safety steps (smoke/CO detector battery changes, cooking safety) and announced that former Fire Chief Dan Moore died earlier that evening. Council members offered condolences.
Mayor Allen described a successful community food drive and presented the borough's community-involvement award to the Yugoslav Club of Coverdale for its volunteer work and scholarship donations; he also announced winners of the annual Halloween-decoration contest by ward.
