Bethel Park awards rare-earth chloride bid to Univar Solutions for wastewater phosphorus control

The Bethel Park Borough Council voted 6–0 to award the rare-earth chloride bid (submitted Sept. 29, 2025) to Univar Solutions at a unit price of $8.0128 per gallon for up to 2,500 gallons.
Council Member Flynn explained that rare-earth chloride is used at the wastewater treatment plant to lower the amount of phosphorus in effluent. The motion was moved and seconded and carried without recorded opposition.
The contract award authorizes municipal staff to procure the specified quantity at the approved unit price and to schedule delivery consistent with the treatment plant's needs.
