He said symbols can mean different things to different people and asked the board to "remind our amazing teachers" that the teachers—not the flags—are the reason students feel welcome.
Board president Jan Kessinger thanked Savage for his remarks; no board motion, policy change, or staff directive was made at the meeting. The district noted it takes public comments seriously and will follow up as appropriate.
