Two members of the public told Collin County Commissioners Court they experienced practical problems after the county moved to paper ballots.

Judy DeShawn said election-day lines were long and that information about ballot items was difficult to find. "It took me well over an hour to get inside," she said, and she urged the county to do more public education so voters understand ballot items before they arrive at the polling place.

Dorothy Smith described difficulties reading the new paper ballots, saying the ballot used a small sans serif font and that textured voting booths made it hard to fill the ovals. She said the change reversed earlier voting technology that allowed easy corrections and alleged the new paper-based approach caused confusion and delays; she urged the county to "bring back our machines." She also said the new system cost about $2,300,000.

Both speakers recommended clearer pre-election information for voters and raised accessibility concerns for older voters and people with tremors or reduced dexterity. The court did not take action on the comments during the meeting.

Next steps noted during the meeting were limited to public comment; county staff did not announce a plan to change equipment at the hearing.
