The Leesburg Arts Commission reviewed sponsorship revenues for its public-heart program and agreed to add two additional sponsored hearts to the program roster.
Member 1 reported the commission had approximately $12,000 in sponsorships from local businesses and organizations and emphasized that artist fees were typically budgeted at about $1,000 per heart. "We have 12,000 with the sponsorships," Member 1 said as the group reviewed the list of sponsors and the artists matched to accepted hearts.
Commissioners debated how many additional hearts they could afford while preserving funds for bases and marketing. After discussing several budget scenarios and an estimated freight/installation cost per heart, Member 1 proposed adding two more hearts now; the commission agreed to proceed with two additional sponsored hearts and to hold specific placement decisions pending confirmation of sponsorship payments.
Member 1 also noted that while some artists requested lower fees, the commission wanted to budget at the $1,000-per-artist level to avoid shortfalls. Staff was directed to prepare a payment checklist and ensure all sponsor contributions are in hand before placing final orders for hearts and bases.
Member 1 said she would compile winners and placement recommendations and circulate them to the commission; the formal vote on any additional purchases will occur at the next meeting after staff confirms sponsorship receipts.
