Aliso Viejo — The City Council voted unanimously to award a contract for resurfacing the pool deck at the Aliso Viejo Aquatic Center.
Parks and recreation staff presented a cement-based, multi-coat product that includes surface preparation, a primer/binder coat, a texture coat and a colored seal coat. Staff said previous attempts to bid and install a durable surface had failed and that the recommended contractor will provide a sample patch for review before the full project is executed.
Project manager Sean said the product is designed to better resist chemical wear and estimated the surface should be reviewed at five years and likely require only a new color seal rather than a full base-coat replacement. “We may not even need that at the 5 year mark,” he said, adding the product is one of the lower-priced options received.
Councilmembers asked about heat for children's feet, longevity, and options to reduce rust staining from umbrella stands. The council voted by roll call with five yes votes to approve the contract; staff said the work will occur during the off-season and one pool will remain open for public use during construction.
