Buena Park board approves chief technology officer job description, board says role will be challenging to fill

The Buena Park School District Governing Board approved a revised job description for a Chief Technology Officer and reestablished the position on the senior management salary schedule at its Nov. 10 meeting.

Trustees described the role as essential and broad. Trustee 'Mister Jensen' said the district needs a CTO because technology and cybersecurity are increasingly critical, but he cautioned the position "reads like two separate positions" and could be difficult to fill. Other trustees echoed the need for a committed candidate who can lead and teach the IT team. The revision presented to the board separates oversight and management duties into two bullet points; the board approved the change after a motion and second.

The board recorded the approval and directed staff to proceed with the revised job posting and classification; trustees said they expect recruitment to follow the board action.
