Superintendent Isaac Severs opened the Nov. 10 board meeting by announcing the district’s new approach to student recognition: presenting awards during a regularly scheduled board meeting and live-streaming the event so families who could not attend could watch later. "This is a pretty special opportunity," Severs said, asking families to take photos and inviting students to accept certificates and yard signs.
Staff members read nomination language recognizing individual students for leadership, kindness and classroom engagement. Examples included Chase, nominated for encouraging classmates and raising the level of class discussion; Tanaya Kokes, described as a "quiet hero" who helps others without seeking attention; and Emerson Long, praised for empathy and inclusiveness. Teachers named as nominators were read aloud for each honoree.
The superintendent noted logistics for the yard signs and thanked Biggut's Frozen Custard for sponsoring the program. Students were asked to leave signs with parents for photography and to return for a group photo with the board at the end of the ceremony. The district encouraged families to watch the live stream and share the recognition video with those unable to attend.
The ceremony concluded before the formal meeting, which proceeded with the Pledge of Allegiance and routine board business.
