At the Nov. 10 meeting the Forest Hills Board of Education reviewed multiple capital projects and procurement recommendations tied to the district's 2025 capital projects fund.
District staff reported that Northern Hills Middle School received 83 bids across 25 categories and recommended accepting low bids in all but three categories; the project was presented with a total cost not to exceed $16,025,812 and a planned start in June with an expected two‑year construction timeline. "That'll come from 2025 capital projects," staff said while describing the bid review process and OAK partners' review.
The new Aquatic Center was described as a marquee West Michigan project that attracted statewide bidders (141 bids across 31 categories). Administration presented a recommended budget of $47,327,416 from the 2025 capital projects fund and said some early water and utility relocation work could begin this fall with primary construction next spring.
Other procurement items included five replacement buses from Midwest Transit Equipment (International chassis) at a total not to exceed $1,599,505; 113 interactive flat panels (BenQ) for Central High and Eastern Middle/High at a not‑to‑exceed $646,589 from earlier capital funds; and an automated floor scrubber for Eastern Middle/High School (low bidder Action Chemical Inc.). The district noted per‑bus increases of about $11,000 over last year, attributing roughly 60% of the increase to recent tariffs.
Routine finance items presented on the consent agenda included the annual summer tax levy (authorization to collect 50% of district taxes in July) and a property tax refund to Kent County of $61,247.47.
Several of these items were part of the consent grouping taken up by roll call later in the meeting. The board did not discuss alternative funding sources for the projects in detail during the meeting; administration referenced prior subcommittee and packet review and said additional design and bidding for other sites will follow in coming months.
