The Catalina Foothills Unified School District Governing Board on Nov. 10 unanimously approved a set of School Facilities Division (SFD) awards and related consent items that will fund major facility projects across the district.
The board approved consent agenda items 3.7–3.12, accepting SFD awards and the terms and conditions for grant-funded projects. Superintendent Denise Bartlett said the awards were the result of sustained effort by district facilities staff to secure limited state funding, and she noted the district’s bond program would otherwise have to cover a much larger share of these costs.
The motion combined several contracts and grant acceptances. Key items included reroofing contracts and architecture/engineering teams for Orange Grove Middle School ($6,903,226.92), Canyon View Elementary ($3,843,930.88), and Sunrise Drive Elementary ($4,353,083.17); a weatherization project at Ventana Vista Elementary ($1,200,395); a site drainage grant for Orange Grove Middle School (BRG 007786, estimated $17,000); and terms to accept funds for a fire alarm control system replacement at Hesperaro Canyon Middle School (BRG 007793, not to exceed $1,100,000).
During discussion board members and staff emphasized that while reroofing and mechanical work may not be highly visible to students and the public, they are critical to sustaining facilities and avoiding more costly deferred maintenance. Bartlett added that the district’s 2024 bond of $38.5 million makes these SFD awards particularly valuable, noting the awards represent a sizable portion of that bond in a single funding cycle.
The board motion to approve the grouped consent items was seconded and passed on a 5–0 voice vote.
Next steps: staff said work would be scheduled to minimize disruption to classrooms, with some projects starting in spring and continuing through summer. No further formal board action on these specific awards was announced at the meeting.
