Pontiac City Council voted unanimously on Nov. 10 to reaffirm the city's intention to continue with the purchase of 300 West Huron Street — the former Pontiac Central campus — and authorized the administration to initiate a baseline environmental estimate (BEA) ahead of closing.
The council resolution confirms that the city will not exercise its option to terminate the purchase agreement before the remaining contingency deadline and directs staff to expedite the BEA. Council documents presented the property as approximately 410,000 square feet on about 16 acres; the planned $12 million purchase would make the facility the base of operations for public works and municipal services.
Councilwoman Rutherford moved the resolution and the council then voted 6–0. The city previously completed Phase I/II environmental assessments and structural and mechanical reviews as part of due diligence; the BEA is intended to supplement that work prior to final purchase and occupancy planning.
Administration said the purchase advances consolidated municipal operations and supports longer‑term maintenance and service efficiencies. Council members said the vote closes an extended due-diligence process that has included community engagement and multiple professional assessments.
The administration will report BEA results back to the council per the timeline attached to the purchase agreement and proceed toward closing consistent with contract deadlines.
