Leonardtown planning staff previews annexation and zoning requests for three parcels

Mike Bailey, speaking for the Planning Department, told the Town Council on Nov. 10 that the Planning Commission has two annexation items under consideration that will require zoning recommendations. The parcels include the David Hall property (described as across from the CVS in Leonardtown and behind the SMECO substation), a parcel on Cedar Lane adjacent to the senior center, and a roughly 3-acre parcel across the street from the Cedar Lane site. Bailey said some parcels may be proposed as residential and one parcel could include partial commercial zoning.
Bailey said the Planning Commission will hold a public hearing next month and then forward recommendations on zoning to the council. The council did not take formal action on the annexations at the Nov. 10 meeting; Bailey described the items as pre-hearing briefing and asked the council to await the Planning Commission's formal recommendation.
The council asked clarifying questions and confirmed the normal sequence: public hearing before recommendation.
