School committee approves ECLC and Northeast STEM mini‑grants

During the Nov. 6 meeting the North Andover School Committee accepted several competitive mini‑grants submitted earlier this year.
Curriculum staff reported that the district applied for five Essex County Learning Community (ECLC) mini‑grants and three were accepted, funding programming that includes ambitious science teaching, a women's leadership development group and an "Opportunity Myth" study group for teachers. The district also reported $3,500 in total awards from the Northeast STEM network for a student project, two librarian projects and a high‑school science teaching stipend.
Mister Hicks moved to accept the ECLC mini‑grants as presented; the motion was seconded and approved with committee roll-call votes recorded as 'yes.' He then moved to accept the Northeast STEM mini‑grant; that motion was seconded and approved unanimously.
Committee members thanked staff and applicants for bringing these competitive professional development and classroom enrichment opportunities to North Andover students.
