City staff told the Lewisville City Council Nov. 1 that the Prairie Creek water/wastewater expansion will include a new 2,000,000‑gallon clear well and an associated pump station intended to replace equipment nearing the end of its useful life.
Aaron Russell, director of public services, said the project is one phase of a larger plant expansion and is currently at roughly 60% design. "This project, we estimate this project at $70,000,000, all in right now," Russell said, adding that updated pricing from consultants changed the estimate by about $2 million but overall market pricing for these specialized projects remains volatile. Staff discussed bidding strategies — whether to bid the tank and pump station together or separately — and said the market has a small number of contractors who perform this type of work.
Russell also described phasing and site impacts: the work will require demolition of existing structures to make room for future phases and will be bid to obtain the most competitive pricing. No procurement or funding appropriation was voted on at the meeting; the presentation was informational and part of the capital improvement program update.
What happens next: Staff will continue design, update cost estimates, and return with procurement recommendations and budget requests when available.
