Department on Aging reports contract award, federal funds advance and uptick in self‑referrals

Danielle described a notable shift in referral sources: self‑referrals rose from roughly 45% in 2023 to about 58% in 2025, while medical‑source referrals (hospitals, home‑health agencies) fell from roughly 16% to 4%. She said the department intends to use that information to target outreach to medical partners if commissioners want more referrals from those sources.
The department is organizing a community conversation on older‑adult services on Nov. 17 (in‑person facilitation) and has a survey due Dec. 15 for those unable to attend. Danielle also highlighted volunteer‑led programming growth, including expanded drumming classes and a Dawn Foods volunteer event on Nov. 19 to support nutrition programming.
