Mills County OKs resolution to apply for ballistic-resistant vehicle grant for sherifffs fleet

Mills Countyfs Commissioners Court unanimously approved a resolution Nov. 10 supporting a sherifffs office application for a ballistic-resistant vehicle grant.
Chief Deputy Pool (Speaker 3) told the court the grant opportunity stems from recently enacted federal legislation that made funds available for public-safety equipment. Pool said the application would cover ballistic protection for seven control/patrol vehicles (front windshields, two side windshields and ballistic panels on doors) and that the vendor quote for the seven vehicles totaled about $67,000. Pool said he would serve as the compliance officer on the application and would prepare the grant paperwork.
Commissioners asked whether multiple bids were required; Pool said the estimate was below procurement thresholds that would trigger additional bidding. Pool said the judge would be the authorized official on the application and the sherifffs office would handle compliance.
Commissioner Williams made the motion to approve the resolution; Commissioner Head seconded and the court voted to adopt the resolution by voice vote. The resolution authorizes staff to pursue the grant application and to complete required certifications.
