WORCESTER, Mass. — The standing committee approved a naming recommendation on Nov. 10 to honor Lieutenant Jason Menard by naming the Dougherty Athletic Field after him.

Molly, representing the naming committee, reported a public meeting on Oct. 20, receipt of 14 letters and a 9–0 vote by the naming committee to name the field for Menard. Committee members praised the process and asked that the district plan a recognition ceremony for his family.

Why it matters: The naming acknowledges a local resident and firefighter who is an alumnus of Doherty High School and provides an opportunity for community commemoration.

What's next: The committee approved the naming and indicated plans for a ribbon‑cutting or dedication event to honor Menard and his family.
