The Board of Education for Chickasha Public Schools voted to accept a second Department of Justice grant of $500,000, with matching funds of $169,165 from the district over three years, to strengthen safety and security across district sites.

Superintendent Rick said the funds "will continue to go in our efforts to, upgrade and update our safety and security throughout the schools," and explained most of the money will pay for security film on glass entrances and additional cameras to cover blind spots. He added the film "is not bulletproof... What it does is it delays anybody trying to get in through that glass up to 3 to 5 minutes," a delay he said provides time for law enforcement to respond.

Board members discussed the scope of the work and implementation logistics; the district noted many doors and badge-access upgrades were handled in a prior round of improvements and these funds will address remaining doors and identified blind spots. The board moved to accept the award (motion by Clift; second by Gertas) and approved the grant on a unanimous roll-call vote.

Next steps: staff will begin planning installation of security film and additional cameras at prioritized entrances and report back to the board with timelines and procurement details.
