During the Nov. 6 work session, a city official told council that parks and recreation projects will be priorities in coming weeks and that some items will be on the Nov. 20 agenda.
The official said the Little League has paid for the design of new baseball safety netting to protect spectators at the upper pinwheel area (fields 5–8) and that council will consider paying for the netting and supporting structure. On repairs, the official said Drake Field Pavilion required temporary fixes earlier this year and that a permanent repair is estimated at $109,000 to restore the wood structure and ensure it is safe.
Why it matters: Both items affect public-safety and recreation use for youth sports and community events. The Little League’s contribution to design reduces upfront city cost; the pavilion repair would be a capital maintenance expense.
What’s next: Council will review cost details and consider both the netting installation and the Drake Field Pavilion repair at the Nov. 20 city council meeting.
