The West Geauga Local School District honored its fall athletes at the Nov. 11 board meeting, with athletic director Brandon Stewart and administrators recognizing team and individual accomplishments across multiple sports.
Volleyball finished the season with 17 wins and reached the district final for the first time in school history; Stewart noted coach Amber Baker earned her 100th career win and Mallory Leer recorded 2,000 career assists and was named CBC Chagrin Division Most Valuable Player.
Cross country qualifiers Ian Ress and Jacob Williams were recognized: Stewart said Ian finished sixth at the state meet — a first in school history for all‑Ohio status — and Jacob posted his season best at the state race. Coach John Boylan was named Lake Division coach of the year after the boys won the Lake Division CBC title.
Dylan Phillips, a sophomore on the golf team, repeated his trip to the state meet and finished sixth, earning second‑team all‑Ohio honors. In football, Stewart highlighted a cultural turnaround and said Miles Baker became the program’s single‑season rushing leader with 1,846 yards and 18 touchdowns.
The girls soccer program won the CBC championship for a fourth straight year and advanced to the regional finals; Addison Cook set a new program record with roughly 30 assists this season, and several players received Greater Cleveland Coaches Association honors.
"It has been just a delight to watch them in action," Stewart said, praising student‑athletes for classroom and on‑field accomplishments. The board invited teams forward for photographs and public recognition.
The board and administration thanked coaches and families and encouraged continued community support for winter athletics and upcoming special events.
