Thomas "Tommy" Garver introduced himself at the Wausau Ethics Board meeting on Nov. 11, describing a career that moved from military service to medicine and then to local civic involvement.
Garver said he "grew up an army brat, traveled all around, entered the army as a combat officer, switched into medicine, became an army orthopedic surgeon" and later left Germany for a job in the United States, settling in the Wausau area about 20–22 years ago. "I retired 3 years ago and felt the calling of civic Duty," he said.
Board members welcomed Garver and suggested sharing background materials and suggested readings ahead of future meetings to speed his orientation. Garver said his term is three years, which one member described as part of reconstituting staggered terms for the board.
Next steps: Members said they will circulate a set of readings and relevant draft materials to Garver ahead of the Dec. 16 meeting so he can review the work the board has completed and take part in decisions on proposed code revisions.
