West Bend fire chief reports steady progress on Fire Station No. 1; completion now anticipated in late 2026

The fire chief said 14 bid packages were issued and that successful bidders have been identified for all packages; 12 contracts are being processed through CD Smith while two packages will be contracted directly by the city to accommodate merit‑shop labor requirements. He noted contingencies remain intact.
Site demolition of the Johnson Bus building has been completed and underground fuel storage tanks were removed without obvious signs of contamination, although staff have requested testing to confirm; rebar delivery and foundation work are expected to start soon. Due to some time lost for utility work and environmental testing, the anticipated completion date was revised to November 2026.
Council members thanked staff for the progress update. The chief committed to returning with further procurement actions for contracts that must be held directly by the city.
