Summary
A Waxahachie ISD branding committee recommended royal blue paired with Kelly green as the colorway for Waxahachie Creek High School and presented two mascot concepts; the final mascot name and board action are scheduled for December.
The Waxahachie ISD branding consultant presented the results of a year-long community process to develop a mascot and colors for Waxahachie Creek High School.
Cody Jones, the creative manager leading the work, said the process began with community forums and produced nine mascot concepts and five color combinations. Committee voting narrowed the options; the branding committee nearly unanimously selected a royal blue paired with Kelly green as the preferred colorway after testing applications on uniforms and signage. "Almost unanimously, the royal blue and the Kelly green were selected by the committee," Jones said.
Mascot options were narrower: the committee favored the bison and the copperhead/copperheads (also referenced as copperheads/copperheads-derivative marks in the discussion). The group was split on nomenclature: some members supported using "Bison" while others preferred a name like "Thunder." Jones said because the committee was evenly divided on the name, the board would be presented the preferred animal marks and asked to select the final name and brand at the December meeting.
Jones explained the process balanced community input with practical considerations such as uniform availability and duplication with neighboring schools' colors. He noted that some color combinations that looked good in concept were not available in common uniform stocks and could be costly; the selected palette was chosen in part for accessibility and cost efficiency.
Trustees asked to receive electronic copies of the logos and color schematics; staff said they would distribute the materials and bring a final action item back in December for board selection.
