Two non‑governmental presentations and a public comment highlight appeared on the commission agenda Monday.
Jane McGinnis, president of the Women’s Club of Winter Haven, presented the commission with a signed copy of the club’s new photo book, "Florida Is Golden, Richness in Nature," and said sales proceeds support the General Federation of Women's Clubs and a planned Flight of Honor for 172 female veterans on March 11, 2026 from Linder Airport to Washington, D.C. The book is available for a $40 donation, and McGinnis presented a copy for the city archives.
During public comment, Steve Giordano, president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Polk County, thanked the commission for local support and shared program statistics and operational needs: "We now have 419 registered members," he said; staff reported 235 average daily attendance with a goal of 300, 99% of the children are eligible for free lunch, and the organization has provided approximately 43,000 hot meals year‑to‑date. Giordano also reported the club has seven buses (four leased from the Polk County School Board) and spends roughly $500,000 annually on buses and transportation.
The commission had no additional public speakers on these items and moved on to other agenda business.
