The Board approved Resolution 252636 to accept the San Juan County Outdoor Recreation Master Plan, a year-plus planning effort developed with Plan Collaborative and funded by a grant from the New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division.
Mara Biddy, senior planner with Plan Collaborative, summarized the plan’s goals: improve public health and quality of life, promote equitable access to parks and trails, strengthen the outdoor recreation economy, and develop a 15–20 year framework for stewardship and partnerships. She said the outreach program included nine public cluster events and more than 1,700 in-person interactions; the plan inventories county-owned and other recreation resources and presents a prioritized list of planning, infrastructure and programming projects with planning-level cost estimates and a funding matrix.
Commissioners discussed specific elements — including flexible gathering spaces at McGee Park for powwow and cultural events, pond realignment and water-quality work, and archery facilities — and staff noted existing flood remediation at a park entrance funded in part through a state match.
A motion to adopt the plan was moved and passed by the Board.
