Residents press school board over repeated bus delays; district pledges follow-up

Two residents told the Dinwiddie County School Board on Nov. 11 that repeated bus delays have disrupted families and compromised student attendance.
Scott Coonfield said he compiled a log of delay notifications from the prior 30 days and asked the board for solutions. “I'm talking about an hour and a half, an hour. It really is shocking,” he said, and asked staff to review the log and follow up.
Crystal Short, a nurse and Dinwiddie resident, said multiple attempts to reach the bus garage had not resolved the problem. “For the last 3 weeks, we have not had a set schedule for the bus,” she said, adding that the unpredictability affects work schedules and caregiving responsibilities.
Board staff pledged follow-up. Mister Walters was asked to contact both residents after the meeting to review their logs and investigate routes. Board members acknowledged an aging driver workforce and recent departures. One member said transportation staff have been actively seeking solutions but agreed the district has not yet found a durable fix.
No formal action was taken at the meeting; board members encouraged residents to provide contact information and committed to continued updates.
