The Okaloosa County School Board elected Linda Vancic as its chair for the coming year and named Parker Destin vice chair during its organizational meeting. The nominations were seconded and the chair’s election passed 5 to 0; the vice chair nomination was recorded as unanimous.
Board members then confirmed a series of routine appointments. Mister Bryant was reappointed as the board’s representative to the Florida School Boards Insurance Trust (referred to in the meeting as "Fisbit") with Parker Destin designated as alternate. The chair agreed to serve as the board’s representative to the Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation. Brett Heinley was named the board’s representative to the construction program; Dr. Lamar White was confirmed to remain the representative to the principal and assistant principal of the year selection committee; and Parker Destin was selected for the educational support professional of the year selection committee. Nominations were seconded and approved by voice vote in each case.
The board also authorized continued use of its existing depository bank after Chief Financial Officer Julie Perry presented MICR signature documentation. The board then conducted an annual review of its legal services agreement with Anchor Smith Grimsley, PLC; school board attorney Jeffrey McGinnis said the firm is not requesting changes and members praised his decades of service. A motion to approve the contract was made, seconded and approved by the board.
Several members used the organizational meeting to recognize outgoing chair Dr. Lamar White for his two years of service and to welcome Vancic as the new chair. Vancic thanked the board and said she would "do my best" in the role. The meeting closed after a short discussion of a student‑participation concept (see separate item).
